Garland James Manuel, Sr., 70, of New Palestine, IN, passed away on June 22, 2018. Garland was born January 2, 1948, in Indianapolis, IN, to Ollie J. Manuel and Myrtle M. (Doyle) Manuel. After completing his education, he later met and married his wife, Judy (Hall) Manuel, and they have been happily married for nearly 52 years. Garland served his country in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971 until he was honorably discharged. After his service, he worked as a supervisor for Allison Transmission for over 43 years before retiring in 2009. Garland was very active in his church and served as a church elder at the New Palestine United Church. He was very devoted to his family, his friends, and to anyone who needed him. Garland was known for having many joys in life, but found the most joy spending quality time with his sons, his grandson, family and close friends. Garland is survived by his wife, Judy Manuel; sons, Garland J. (Nikki) Manuel Jr, and Zachary T. (Syndi) Manuel; grandson, Chase Manuel; cousin, Kenneth (Florence) Doyle; and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation for Garland will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2018 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Hendryx Mortuaries – Cumberland Chapel, 11636 East Washington St., Indianapolis, IN, 46229. Burial will follow in Washington Park East Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Garland's memory to the New Palestine United Church.
