James Hershel McIntosh, 91, of Fairland, IN, passed away on October 18, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on May 1, 1925, in Haddix, KY, to Dave McIntosh and Florence (Smith) McIntosh. He later met and married Gladys (Jackson) McIntosh, and they have been happily married for 64 years. After completing his education, James served in the U.S. Army and Air Forces during WWII. He proudly served his country for several years before being honorably discharged. After the service he was then employed as a painter for Naval Avionics. He was a barber for many years, as well as an ordained minister and enjoyed serving his Lord and his community. Out of all of his accomplishments, his greatest joy in life was the time he spent with his family.
In addition to his wife, James is survived by his son, Rick (Dee) McIntosh; daughter, Diane Gibson; brother, Ronnie McIntosh; sister, Lois Burns; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, David William McIntosh; and one grandson, Brandon David McIntosh.
Visitation for James will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Hendryx Mortuary – Cumberland Chapel, 11636 East Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46229. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 1:00 PM with visitation from 12:00 – 1:00 PM at the Buck Creek Baptist Church, 135 S. Muessing Rd, Cumberland, IN 46229.
