Jo Ellen Everson Miller died 2 March 2018. She was born 10 July 1924 in Indianapolis to Bernice Daily Everson of Anderson and Joseph Everson of Indianapolis. Jo Ellen grew up on College Avenue where she returned as an adult to teach art. She graduated from Shortridge High School where she worked on the yearbook staff alongside Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. Jo Ellen earned her Bachelor's in art education through John Herron Art Institute and Butler University. While working for IPS, she married James Edward Miller of Evansville on 15 August 1948 after only six months of courtship; they were married in Butler Chapel. The Millers had celebrated 60 years of marriage when Jim Miller died February 2009. Jo Ellen volunteered for IPS by testing students' eyesight and later for Goodwill Industries. She loved art, painting, gardening, symphonic music, travel and reading. She was a member of the Indianapolis Art League, Alpha Chi Omega, and All Souls Unitarian Church. Jim Miller worked as Projects Manager for Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals, and he and Jo Ellen treasured their times in Ireland, Puerto Rico, and Toronto.
She is survived by her son Craig Edward Miller of Bainbridge, GA, her granddaughter Lillian Dailey Miller of Acworth, GA, and a cousin, Glenn Daily of The Villages, FL. Private services will be held at a later time in New Palestine Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to www.hendryxmortuary.com or to the Hendryx Mortuaries' Facebook page. Hendryx Mortuaries is honored to be assisting the family with the services.
