John R. Messer

A hero is someone who has given his life to something bigger than oneself.

John passed away peacefully on May 19, 2017. Born in Pineville, KY on April 28, 1945, he was the son of Anna (Harkness) Messer and Charles Messer. He graduated from Bell County High School in 1963.

John is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Jo Ellen "Jody" Messer; son, Gregory K. Messer; daughter, Ramona S. Fields (Rusty); stepson, Corbin L. Haggard; four grandchildren; Justin, Tyler, Elizabeth, Jeremiah; great grandchild; Ava;
Brothers; David G. Messer, Donald R. Messer; and sister, Benita (Messer) Shelton. He is proceeded in death by his mother, father, four brothers, and five sisters.

John enjoyed a successful career with General Motors for over 41 years. He worked for the UAW for 10+ years holding multiple positions. He was appointed by the State of Indiana by 3 different Mayors as an Administrative Law Judge.

With his fun-loving personality and his ability to tell a great story, John touched the lives of everyone he met. He loved gardening, building things, garage sales and bon-fires.

John will be forever remembered for his love of family, friends and his passion for life. He did not let grass grow under his feet! John was a true Patriot and would prefer to purchase items made in the USA.

Visitation for John is Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 8 p.m. Hendryx Mortuary, New Palestine Chapel, 19 E. Main St., New Palestine, IN
