Kelly (Metschke) Charlier, 53, of Fishers, Ind. passed peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly Father early Monday, Sept. 11, 2017 after a 12-year battle with breast cancer. She will be remembered for her grace, compassion, faith, optimism, and, to the end, her smile and her endless sense of humor. Her happiness was contagious.

Born Sept. 13, 1963, in Omaha, Neb., she was preceded in death by her father, William Metschke, and stepfather, Phillip Ohmit. She is survived by her loving family: husband Fito Charlier; daughters Kaylan (Jose Marquez Reina), Marisa, and Ariana; son Javier; mother Judy Ohmit; brothers Dan (Annette) and David Metschke; sisters Hope Travelbee and Kathy Helm (Shannon); and many nieces and nephews.

She spent her youth in Westville, Ind. and graduated from Westville High School in 1981. There she was a class officer and participated in National Honor Society, choir and volleyball. She attended Indiana University-Bloomington, graduating in 1987.

She strived to leave a "Legacy of Faith" and was a devout member of Christ the Savior Lutheran Church, where she planned and led women's retreats and sang with the worship band. She also led women's bible study at CTS and at Bridgeway Community Church. Her work with the CTS youth group included various mission trips to Puerto Rico and New Mexico. In addition to guiding church youth, she was a loving and patient mentor for years to a foster son, Jouseph Rosario. Most recently she worked for eight years as a bus driver for Hamilton Southeastern School District, where she was beloved by students, parents and staff.

Kelly never let herself be defined or defeated by her health challenges. To the contrary, she was viewed as a brave and tireless "warrior" on behalf of herself and others, mentoring late Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer patients and volunteering at the Central Indiana Cancer Center (CICC) while going through treatment herself, until she was unable to do so.

Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 15, 3-7pm with one additional hour of visitation from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service on Saturday, with funeral services Saturday, Sept 16 at 11am, both at Christ the Savior Lutheran Church in Fishers, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Persons in Need Ministry at CTS Lutheran Church. Checks can be made out to Christ the Savior Lutheran Church with "Persons in Need Ministry" in the memo line and mailed directly to the church.
