Russ Guy Cooley, the son of Richard G. Cooley (1932) and Rosemary Straveler Cooley (1934-2004) was born on June 24th, 1964 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He peacefully passed away at home on October 31st, 2016. He attended Indianapolis Public Schools and graduated from Howe High School in 1982.
Russ was known for his sense of humor; he was the life of any party. No one who spent a couple minutes with Russell, walked away without a smile. Much like his parents, Russ loved gardening….He could grow anything, especially hot peppers. Making his famous jalapeno poppers, and sharing them with friends was one of his favorite things in life. He liked to camp, fish and golf, and he was good at all three! Maybe not golf, but he was a laugh a minute! You never knew what he'd pull out of his bag. Traveling with Russell was an experience, he truly loved to travel. He met and made friends wherever he went. Highlights included many trips to Gulf Shores, Alabama, various places in Florida, a visit to Germany in 2008 with close friends, and the Carolina's for a couple of weddings, where he left a lasting impression on everyone. He had an extensive knowledge of music, both past and present and shared that love with family and friends whenever the opportunity arose. Russ was caring and generous to everyone. He dedicated the last few years of his life, to looking after, and keeping his father company. He was a GOOD man and will be missed by everyone.
Russ was loved and will be dearly missed by his siblings; Roxanne, Randy (Pam), Rod and Rick. Known as Uncle Russ to Gwynn (Ben), Kyle, Jeremy (Lindsey), Craig (Angela), Josh (Joanna), Jonathan, Brian, Lauren and Aaron. Great Nieces and Nephew include Kendra, Erica and Cohen. He is survived by his Aunt Nelly, Aunt Josephine, Uncle Gene and many cousins.
Please join us for a Celebration of Russ' Life on Monday, November 14th. Open House from 5-8 PM at Post Road Community Center, located at 1313 S. Post Road, Indianapolis, IN 46239 317.327.0143
